The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department has released details on a head-on crash on New U.S. 50 at the Shoal Creek Bridge between Breese and Beckemeyer that claimed the lives of two young Sandoval residents.
They are 19-year-old Gage Rollinson and 11-year-old Adler Waterbury. A third person in the same car, 18-year-old Kaleb Calhoun of Sandoval, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese and later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital. Rollinson graduated from Sandoval High School last year and Calhoun had just graduated Friday night.
The sheriff’s department reports an eastbound car driven by Rollinson drove through standing water and hydroplaned causing the driver to lose control. The car spun 180 degrees and crossed over the westbound lane of travel. The rear of the Rollinson vehicle was struck by the front end of a westbound pickup truck driven by 43-year-old Oscar Emilio Sanchez-Ferrera of Rockford. Both Sanchez-Ferrera and a 15-year-old passenger in the pickup truck were not injured.
The report indicates Calhoun was the front seat passenger and Waterbury was in the rear seat.
Clinton County Coroner Phillip Moss says Rollinson and Waterbury were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash from blunt force trauma to the head, chest, and abdomen.
The crash occurred at 4:11 Sunday afternoon.
Sandoval School Superintendent Matt Dannaman indicated the school district provided grief counselors at both the grade school and junior-senior high buildings on Monday for any student or staff who need them.
