2022 05/15 – Lila Mae Hoffman

Lila Mae Hoffman, age 83, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.

She was born on February 2, 1939, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Dudley Harold “D.H.” “Shorty” and Ruth (Blessman) Price.  She married Harold Roberts in 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, and they later divorced, and then she married Ivan Hoffman in 1983, in Mesa, Arizona, and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Lila is survived by her loving family, son Scott Roberts and wife Kim of Centralia, Illinois; grandsons, Gregory Roberts of Centralia, Illinois, and Liam Barwald of Centralia, Illinois; sister, Margie Arning and husband Richard of Farmington, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley Price and Ruth Price; and siblings, Dottie Jolliff, Betty Powell, Robert Price, Richard Price, and Vera Hough.

Lila was of the Christian Faith.  She was a member of the Toastmasters Club in Mesa, Arizona, and the Red Hat Society in Mesa, Arizona.  She was an avid reader, who would sit and read all the time.  She had a great love for music, as she started playing the piano at the age of six and continued to play for her whole life.  She also enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel on tv.  Lila loved her friends who visited with her.  She was known to openly speak of what was on her mind.  She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandsons, Gregory and Liam.

Lila retired as a librarian in 2016 from Centralia Regional Library in Centralia, Illinois, after two years of service, she was a librarian at Hoffman Library in Hoffman, Illinois, for ten years, until the library closed, and she was transferred to Centralia Regional Library.  Earlier in life, Lila was an organ and piano teacher out of her home in Mesa, Arizona, until she retired in 1997. She graduated from the Clown College in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and was a professional clown, whose name was “Piana Nana,” in Mesa, Arizona, for thirty years.  Lila graduated from Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1957”.  She lived in Centralia, Illinois, for a good part of her life, and formerly lived in Mesa, Arizona.

It was the wish of Mrs. Lila Mae Hoffman to leave this world quietly with no public visitation or service.  The family will celebrate the memory of her life at a future date. The final resting place of Mrs. Hoffman will be in Red Rock Crossing in Sedona, Arizona.
