Roy R. Hixenbaugh, 78, of Walnut Hill passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, at his home. He was born on December 18, 1943, the son of Raymond and Alma (Friend) Hixenbaugh in Centralia. He married Thelma Poole on June 19, 1974, in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him in death on December 1, 1994. He found love again with Margie Hutton in 1995 and she survives him.
Along with his sweetheart Margie, survivors include those he raised as his own, Mike (Debbie) Royer, Floyd Royer Jr., Don May, Dawn (David) Allen, and Cathy (Richard) Meyers, and many others; special grandchildren Mikey, Misty, Amy, Gino, Dustin, and Dylan; siblings Donald Hixenbaugh, Ronald Hixenbaugh, David Hixenbaugh, Jerry Hixenbaugh, Butch Hixenbaugh, Larry Hixenbaugh, Gary Hixenbaugh, Mark Hixenbaugh, Lonnie Hixenbaugh, Brenda Hixenbaugh, and Linda Caalim; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife Thelma Hixenbaugh, Roy was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Alma Hixenbaugh; and siblings Bill Hixenbaugh, Raymond Hixenbaugh, and Alli Hixenbaugh.
Roy was a loyal employee of Hank’s Excavating, working as a heavy machinery operator for 28 years. He was a member of the Operator’s Union Local 520. He was active in the community, serving as a Past Master and lifetime member of the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201, Plural member of Mt. Vernon Lodge 31, Scottish Rite Lodge Valley of Southern Illinois, and Ainad Temple of East St. Louis, Knight Templer. Roy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed time hunting and fishing. He found mowing therapeutic and his lawn always looked pristine. Roy had a passion for building cars, equipping them to be the best on his race day. Roy had a generous, loving heart and he raised so many grateful people he treated as his own children and grandchildren. Roy was loved and his selfless kindness will never be forgotten.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Chaplain Joannie Naraghi officiating. Masonic Rites will be accorded by the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201 and Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge 31 with Shiners Walk Through to follow. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Friends are welcome to a visitation time with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Roy’s honor to the Shiners Children’s Hospital.
