A one-year-old Fairfield boy was killed and two others sustained life-threatening injuries in a crash on Illinois Route 15 in Wayne County Thursday afternoon.
State Police say preliminary investigation indicates a car driven by 24-year-old Porscha Schultz of Fairfield had pulled over on the westbound shoulder at a mail box and then came back on the road in front of a semi driven by 29-year-old Jordan Ambrous of Carmi. The semi hit the car in the rear.
The one-year-old boy who died was in the back seat of the car and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Wayne County Coroner. His name has not been released.
Both Schultz and a second passenger in the car, 24-year-old Alissa Crum of Altamont, were both flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi was not hurt. He was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Illinois Route 15 was closed for approximately six hours. The crash occurred at 1:35 Thursday afternoon. State Police say this is an on-going investigation and no further information is available at this time.
