Wildcats Come Up Short Against State Champs….JV’s Defense Let’s Them Down On The Road

The Salem Wildcats saw their comeback bid fall short as they dropped their conference home game to the defending 2a state champion Freeburg 5-3.

Salem trailed 5-0 until the bottom of the sixth when they plated 2.  They added a run in the seventh before the Midgets shutdown the rally.

Hunter Daniels, Griffin Day and Josh Powless doubled for the Cats.  Day and Isaak Williams drove in Salem runs.  Charlie hunter singled and scored as well.  Carter Rose went 2-3.

Day was the starter going 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs with 5 strikeouts.  Williams worked 1.2 clean innings with 2 strikeouts and Carter Rose also got an out.

The Salem JV’s defense let them down as they fell at Freeburg 12-7.  Noan Hix and Braden Rector doubled for the Cats.  Jalen Inlow had a hit, run and 2 RBI with Deytin Parker also driving in 2 runs.  Nix and Ryan Detering added RBI.

Salem will return to action today with a double header.  The varsity will travel to Highland to play the host Bulldogs and Collinsville while the JV will be playing in Collinsville against both teams.
