An investigation by Salem Police has led to the arrest of a 38-year-old Salem man who is believed to have delivered the drugs involved in the overdose of a Salem woman last December.

Police Chief Sean Reynolds says Dane Hays of Mills Crossing was taken into custody at his home on Tuesday on an outstanding warrant issued earlier in the week for alleged manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

Reynolds says the female was revived by EMS with the use of Narcan.

They then began backtracking where the woman obtained the fentanyl that is believed to have caused her to overdose and become unresponsive.

With information obtained by electronic means, police learned where the woman allegedly planned to meet to obtain drugs. They were then able to find video of that location that allegedly showed the hand-to-hand drug transaction. The overdose occurred about an hour later.

Reynolds says no action was taken as they waited for the crime lab to confirm the drug found in the woman’s possession at the time of the overdose was fentanyl.

A warrant was then issued for Hays arrested on Monday with bond set at $35,000. During his first court appearance on Wednesday, Hays had the public defender appointed to represent him. A preliminary hearing was set for May 10th.
