Corn and soybean planting is starting up in Illinois.

On average, less than two days were suitable for fieldwork this past week.  Still, State Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener says some minor progress was made.

“Corn planting was reported as 2% finished compared to 21% one year ago and also 21% for the five year average.  Soybean planting reached 1% complete, compared to 16% last year and 8% normally.”

Five percent of winter wheat has headed and 40% of the crop is rated in good to excellent condition.

Pasture conditions improved to 53% in good to excellent condition.

Average statewide topsoil moisture came in at 2% short, 49% adequate and 49% surplus.
