About 100 kids and parents turned out for the first-ever Salem Community High School Honor Society Sunday Fun Day on Sunday.

The threatening weather forced some of the activities inside BE Gum Gym, but the two-hour event still went well according to SCHS Honor Society President Rylan Crane.

“We were trying to come up with an idea for a service project.  A 5k was a possibility at one point but thought that an event for kids offering free hot dogs, games and candy for the kids would be a better opportunity for the community and went with that.  Turned out pretty good and the kids had fun.”

Crane says it will be up to the Honor Society next year if the service project continues, but he’s hoping the idea can be built upon in coming years.

About 25 members of the National Honor Society took part in putting on the Fun Day.
