The Salem 11u are champions of GMB Edwardsville after rain shortened the championship game last night. Trailing the Edwardsville Tigers 3-1 after 4 innings, the lightning and rain came and canceled the rest of the game. The tournament awarded Salem the title since they were the top seed after pool play. In the title game, the Cats had a single and run from Bentley Bryan. Kai Graham added an RBI single.
Salem opened the tournament on Saturday with a 10-0 win over the Diamond Stars. In the win, Colton Tockstein singled and drove in 3 while scoring a run. Colton would suffer an injury after getting hit with a baseball on Saturday and was taken to the hospital. At last report he was resting and recovering.
Also in the game, Zane Applegate drove in a run along with Graham and Rhett Starnes. Bryan and Schaubert scored 2 runs each, Owen Tennyson doubled, Drew Consolino added a run and Kellen Nix scored. Jared Crompton was the winning pitcher.
The Cats finished pool play with a 10-5 win over the GC Tribe. Bentley Bryan had 3 hits including a double with 2 runs and a RBI. Jax Schaubert, Applegate, Consolino, Tripp Garden and Nix all drove in runs. Tennyson singled and scored, Tockstein scored a run along with Graham and Crompton.
Salem reached the tournament championship game with a 6-4 semifinal win over the St Louis Nike Redbirds Elite. Schaubert doubled and drove in a run along with Bryan, Applegate, Graham, Crompton and Garden. Trygg Aaron scored a run. Bryan and Applegate combined on the mound for the win.
