UNDATED (AP) — With a new general manager, a new manager and several new players, the New York Mets are off to a fine start. Two of those newcomers sparkled in the team’s home opener on Friday as the Mets improved to 6-2 with a 10-3 rout of the Diamondbacks.
Starling Marte was among the offensive stars, going 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and three runs scored. The first-year Met put the game out of reach with a ninth-inning blast, one batter before Francisco Lindor belted his second homer of the day.
Lindor also had three hits and scored three times to support Chris Bassitt, who was terrific in his second start as a Met. Bassitt was reached for one run and two hits over six innings, blanking Arizona until Daulton Varsho homered in the sixth.
Bassitt’s outstanding performance actually raised the overall ERA of Mets starting pitchers to 1.32.
Robinson Cano also went deep, giving the Mets four home runs in a home opener for the first time in team history.
