The Salem Wildcats earned their first Cahokia Conference win as they beat East Alton Wood River on the road 7-1. Griffin Day homered; Isaak Williams also drove in a run along with Charlie Hunter and Blane Phillips. Carter Rose had 2 hits with singles from Brogan Gregg and Eli Rose as well. Gavin Zimmermann got the complete game win allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run with 9 strikeouts and only 2 walks.
The Salem JV made it 3 straight wins as they beat Wood River on the road 16-1 in five innings. Salem scored 6 times in the first inning, 5 more in the third and 4 times in the fifth to short game the Oilers. Nathan Paulson drove in 2 runs along with Noah Nix and Ayden Rose. Also with RBI for the JV Cats were Aden Bass, Jackson Jarrett, Colton Shelton, Deytin Parker and Cooper Lobek. Cody Beard added a hit along with Rhett Detering who scored twice, Braden Rector scored a run as well. Rose was the winning pitcher going all five innings allowing 1 hit and struck out 13 without a walk.
The Wildcats return to action today at home against a good Fairfield Mules team. The Cats have a busy spring break week still ahead of them with games at Roxana tomorrow and traveling to Robinson on Saturday to take on the Maroons and Newton.
