The National Weather Service says the southern half of the state is in the enhanced zone for severe weather to occur late Wednesday afternoon.

Severe storms are expected to develop mid-late Wednesday morning across central and northeast Missouri. The coverage and intensity of severe storms will increase by midday Wednesday as the storms move eastward into eastern Missouri and western Illinois. Severe storms should exit southeast Missouri and south-central Illinois by mid-evening.

The weather service says the greatest chance for severe storm activity in South Central Illinois is three to eight pm.  There is a high potential for tornadoes, 70 to 80 mile per hour wind and golf ball size hail.
