Hunters Walk-Off Single Gives Salem Win Over Mater Dei, JV Falls Again….SC Shuts Out Carlyle

A walk-off single led Salem over Mater Dei in varsity baseball action 9-8.  The game was tied at 8 in the bottom of the 7th when Charlie Hunter singled on a 0-1 count scoring the winning run.  Salem jumped out to 3-0 lead after 2, but Mater Dei scored 4 in the 3rd to take the lead.  Trailing 6-4 Salem scored four in the sixth to set up the Hunter heroics.  Isaak Williams went 3-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Hunter drove in 2 runs in the game along with Blane Phillips with RBI also from Carter Rose and Gavin Zimmermann.  Tyler Tanner was the complete game winner for Salem allowing 6 hits and 8 runs, but just 2 earned and struck out 6.  The Cats return to action today with a JV and Varsity double header in Salem.

The Salem JV fell to 0-7 with a 4-2 loss at the Complex.  Cody Beard was the starting pitcher for the Cats.  He went 5 innings scattering 9 hits and allowing 3 runs but just 2 earned with 5 strikeouts.  Colton Shelton finished the final 2 innings.  At the plate, Noah Nix and Rhett Detering each had 2 hits with Nix driving in a run along with Jalen Inlow.  Beard also singled along with Deytin Parker.

The SC Cougars are 6-2 after their 13-0 road win at Carlyle.  Anthony Buonaura worked the first 2 innings allowing no hits.  Spencer Johannes worked the final 4 allowing 2 hits and striking out 7 with just 1 walk.  The Cougars will play Breese Central & Casey today.
