The Salem 13u opened their season with a pair of wins over Aviston. Salem won the opening game 20-0. Landon Maxey went 2-4 with 2 runs, Evan Barnes scored 3 times and drove in 3 and Jaret Gibson went 4-5 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Brendan Smith, Aaden Rostance and Keytin Grawe all scored 3 times. On the mound, Barnes only gave up 1 run in 2 innings with 5 strikeouts. Rostance finished up the last 3 innings only giving up 1 hit and striking out 5.
Salem earned a 6-5 win in the second game on a ball hit into the gap off the bat of Gibson. Maxey had 2 hits and 2 runs, Barnes went 3-4 with 3 RBI, Gibson drove in 2, Grawe added 2 runs and Brendan Smith scored and Landen Tennyson added an RBI. On the mound, Maxey gave up 2 runs in 6 innings and struckout 12. Aviston scored 3 to tie the game at 5 in the 7th. Gibson then came up in the bottom of the inning with the game tied and 2 outs with a man on 3rd.
