Rose Anna Buttrum Thompson, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:30 am April 1, 2022, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon.
She was born September 15, 1934, in Mount Vernon to the late Raymond and Ruth (Askew) Lisenby. Rose first married Bishop Baker Buttrum on May 10, 1951, in Piggott, Arkansas. They were blessed with 39 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 21, 1990. She later married Phil Thompson and they were married for 10 years before his passing in 2011.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Teresa Pittenger and husband, Tim of Tolono, Illinois; grandchildren, Kristina Weidner and husband, Jeremy of Edgewood, Illinois, Jeremy Buttrum and wife, Caryl of Parkersburg, Illinois, Kari Calame and husband, Kenny of Effingham, Illinois, Larissa Metz and husband, Ryan of Urbana, Illinois, and Tianna Censi and husband, Lucas of Champaign, Illinois; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Jines and husband, Jim of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Sandra Buttrum of Edgewood, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Rose was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Lee Buttrum; brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Lisenby and Raymond “Ray” Lisenby; and nephew, Jimmy Jines.
Rose Anna was a faithful member of the Harlan Road Church of God in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed singing and was very active in the church. Rose found great joy in planning and hosting holiday dinners for her family and friends. She loved antiquing and genealogy. Rose was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Houseworth officiating. Interment will follow at Old Orchard Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Rose’s honor to Hughey Funeral Home, to assist with funeral expenses.
