Two Marion County Fire Departments have received small equipment grants from the State Fire Marshal’s office. The Odin Fire Department will receive a $26,000 grant and the Iuka Fire Department a $24,310 grant.
Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith and Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan both plan to use the grants to purchase new extrication tools, including cutters and spreaders. The equipment is used when the fire departments are called upon to help free persons trapped in vehicles following crashes.
Smith says their current equipment is 39 years old. It will be used as backup.
The new equipment is expected to arrive in about 12 weeks.
