Wildcats Lose Late Lead In Opener…..JV Overcomes Deficit To Fall In Extras….Prep Baseball Scores

The Salem Wildcats held a 2-0 lead over Mount Vernon in their season opener at SCHS Field last night, but the Rams would score 5 times in the 6th inning and 2 more in the seventh to finish off the Cats 7-2.  Mount Vernon outhit Salem 14-5.  Blane Phillips and Charlie Hunter drove in the Salem runs.  Isaak Williams singled along with Drew Davis.  Griffin Day was great in the start working 3 innings allowing 5 hits and no runs.  Hunter worked the next 2.2 allowing 4 hits and 5 runs, but only 2 earned.  Drew Davis and Gavin Wilkins worked the final 1.1 innings for the Cats who head to SIU-Edwardsville this weekend for games against Kaneland and LaSalle/Peru.

Salem jv loses in 8 innings to Mt Vernon 12-10.  Salem trailed 7-0 after 2.5 innings but scored the next 5 to cut the lead to 7-5 through 4.  After the Rams scored a run in the top of the fifth Salem answered with 2in the bottom to make it 8-7 Rams.  Salem would give up 2 more in the 6th, and down to their last 3-outs, they scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game before the Rams would score 2 in the 8th to win it.

Noah Nix and Aidan Rose drove in 2 runs each with RBI also from Jalen Inlow, Aden Bass and Cooper Lobek.  Inlow and Cody Beard doubled in the game.

Rhett Detering started working 3 innings allowing 5 hits 7 runs 6 earned with 5 walks and 3 k’s.  Nix worked the next 4 allowing 4 hits and 3 runs, just 1 earned with 7 strikeouts.  Lobek gave up 2 runs in his inning of work.

 


Christ Our Rock opened with a 7-1 victory over Odin/Patoka/Sandoval in Centralia.  Colton Oelze went 2-4 with 3 RBI in the win.  He also earned the win on the mound going all 7 innings allowing 5 hits and one unearned run with 4 strikeouts.

North Clay opened the season with an 11-1 win over Lawrenceville in 5 innings.  They will head to SIU-Edwardsville this weekend to face Lisle Benet Academy and Pleasant Plains.
