There were six candidates in line for county offices when the Marion County Clerk’s office opened for candidate filing at eight Monday morning.

Kevin Cripps of Iuka filed for Marion County Sheriff, Gary Purcell of Salem filed for re-election as County Treasurer and Steve Fox of Kinmundy filed for re-election as County Clerk.

There were two candidates in line to file for the three openings in County Board District One.   They are Brock Waggoner of Salem and Tracy Murray of Patoka.   A lottery will be held to determine who will be first on the ballot.

Jackie Riley of County Farm Road in rural Salem filed for a District Two seat.

All of the six candidates are running on the Republican ticket.

After the initial filing period, Republican Tyson McHenry of Junction City filed for one of the three openings in county board District 3.

All 15 of the county board district seats are up this year as it was a redistricting year with the 2020 US Census.

The filing period for candidates continues until five next Monday evening.
