The SI Process 7th grade travel basketball team based out of Salem, traveled to the Robinson Exposure Tournament along with more than 70 teams from 3rd-8th grade.
The Process made the Final Four before being beaten by eventual champ Terre Haute North Patriots.
Coach Toby Gullion said “this team was put together a few weeks ago and they have only really played together for a week and a half. I was pleased with how we competed and played hard, but it was obvious we need to get more cohesive as a unit and learn how to play more in sync together. That will come, but I love the pieces we have.”
They opened with a 48-34 loss to Mattoon. Trey Clark led the way with 9, Payton Gullion added 6 with 4 each from Avery Gullion, Sebastian Kruger and Landen Maxey.
The Process then finished pool play with a 41-35 win over Robinson. In that one, Clark finished with 13, Avery Gullion added 8, Maxey added 7, Kruger 6.
The Process opened up bracket play Sunday with a win over Sullivan, Indiana 37-27. Clark finished with 8, Lucas Griffy added 7 with 5 from Kruger and Maxey and 4 each from Luke Shumate and Westin Neilson.
They then ran into a buzz saw in eventual champion Terre Haute North falling 48-30. In the loss, Clark had 8, Caeden Miraglia added 6.
Gullion added, “we put this together, not for wins or trophies, but to allow area kids a chance to play a little longer and get more instruction before they go into the offseason and then hopefully into their 8th grade seasons.”
