Hurricanes down Pens in OT

UNDATED (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have added a point to their lead in the NHL’s highly-competitive Metropolitan Division.
 
Andrei Svechnikov scored on a power play at 3:14 of overtime to complete the Hurricanes’ comeback in a 3-2 triumph over the Penguins. Jordan Staal tallied twice for the Canes, who snapped a two-game skid and won for the fourth time in 16 chances when trailing after 40 minutes.
 
Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who fell to 23-1-2 when leading through two periods.
 
The outcome leaves the Hurricanes four points ahead of the Pens, with the Rangers six points back.
 
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
 
— Mikhail Sergachev scored a power-play goal midway through the third period as the Lightning downed the Red Wings, 3-1. Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos also scored for Tampa Bay, Victor Hedman had three assists, and backup Brian Elliott made 22 saves. The Lightning were coming off a 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh and still haven’t dropped consecutive games in regulation this season.
 
— Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad each had a goal and assists in the Rangers’ sixth win in their last eight home games, 3-1 over the Devils. Igor Shesterkin made 32 saves and Filip Chytil also scored for the Rangers, who are 2-0 on their three-game homestand. Shesterkin made four saves on a third-period Devils power play as he earned his 27th win of the season.
 
— The Golden Knights were 5-4 winners over the Ducks as Nicolas Roy ended his 15-game goal drought with his first career two-goal game in the regular season Roy, Amadio and Jonathan Marchessault scored in a four-goal second period for the Knights. Troy Terry scored his 28th goal early in the third period to trim Vegas’ lead to one goal.
 
— Jason Robertson completed a hat trick with 30 seconds left on the clock in overtime to give the Stars a 3-2 win versus the Jets. Denis Gurianov scored the tying goal late in the third period for the Stars, and Braden Holtby made 39 saves. Paul Stastny had two goals for Winnipeg.
 
— Viktor Arvidsson completed a hat trick by scoring four minutes into overtime to complete the Kings’ 4-3 victory at Columbus. Dustin Brown also scored and Jonathan Quick stopped 24 shots to help the Kings end a two-game losing streak and win for the eighth time in 11 games. Patrik Laine, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Justin Danforth scored for Columbus in a franchise-record, 46-second span in the second.
 
— Jeff Skinner scored twice in a 4:20 span of the third period to push the Sabres past the Wild, 5-4. Kyle Okposo and Casey Mittlestadt each had a goal and assist for Buffalo, which has won back-to-back games for the fifth time this season. Kaprizov had two goals for Minnesota, including his team-leading 26th with 34 seconds remaining.
