The Illinois Child Death Task Force has been assembled under Illinois State Police to handle the investigation of the death of a five month old child found unreponsive in the 1000 block of Maulding Drive at 5:05 Saturday afternoon.
Officers from the Centralia Police Department, along with the Centralia Fire Department and EMS, responded to the scene.
The infant was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, where the child was pronounced deceased at 6:12 pm by Marion County Coroner Claude Howell. The coroner says the child’s name and any other details of the case are not currently being released.
Howell says an autopsy will be completed on Monday morning to try to learn more about the cause of the child’s death.
