Al Frank Flagg, 89, of Centralia passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 3, 1932, the son of Julius and Edna (Coleman) Flagg in Ripley, Tennessee. He married Arlena Westbrook and three children were born of this union and they later divorced.

Survivors include his beloved family, children Darrell Atkins of Centralia, Joycelyn Gray of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mark Flagg (Rosemary) of Richmond, California, Vanessa Andrews (Bruce) of Lima, Ohio, and Faye Webster of Centralia; stepson Leland Mosley (Debra) of Springfield; special son Warren Jones; precious grandchildren Bryce Miller (Chey), Amanda Miller, Leslie Gray, Charissa Gray, Jennifer Fields, Jaquline Flagg, Alexia Flagg, DeCarlo Flagg, Carlisha McCullough (Rondale), Cedric Webster (Breia), and Jamie Webster; cherished great-grandchildren Krista, Amelia, Maxwell, Siles, James, Nalani, Corionna, Jayton, Akasha, Leslie Jr., Jermiah, Desiree, Jayden, Maquise, Chardeja, Dajae, DeAngelo, Corrion, DeCarlo Jr., Rontarious, Rondale, Josiah, and Taylin; many loved great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children Arlena “Mary” Buford; siblings Anna Faye Scott, Denise Bowers, Alba Flagg, James Flagg, Samuel Flagg, and George Flagg, Julius Flagg Jr., Franklin Eugene Flagg, and Larry Flagg; and his son-in-law James Webster.

Al attended Centralia High School before joining the service, later completing his G.E.D. and some college classes. Al was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Germany. He had many great memories and loved to share stories from his exciting time in Germany. He was an amazing provider for his family and worked as a loyal employee of Lincoln Auto Parts for almost 40 years. Al was also a great protector of his daughters and took special notice of who they dated. He was at home in his favorite chair with his remote in his hand. Even though the chairs changed over the years, Al was always seated in the same spot since he was twelve years old. He could be found there enjoying western movies and watching football and basketball games. Al always, always put his family first and shared an unbreakable connection with them. He truly took a genuine interest in every member of his family’s life. He would be there to offer advice, sometimes in the form of tough love or make them laugh with his dry sense of humor. His mouth would water at the thought of his sister Denise’s coconut cake. Al was the best big brother to his sister Faye and the two of them shared a special bond. Al was a proud man and well respected. He was loving to his family and would do anything for them. Al will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Val J. Powe and Pastor Charles Watson officiating.
