State Police say three separate multiple vehicle crashes closed southbound I-57 from Farina to Kinmundy Wednesday night into the early morning hours of Thursday morning.
Fortunately, there were no injuries in any of the crashes.
Reports indicate the first crash occurred at 7:06 Wednesday night involving multiple commercial units and passenger vehicles. At about 7:45 Wednesday evening, three commercial units and a passenger vehicle collided. At about 8:50 pm, a commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle collided.
Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says the southbound lanes froze up making it difficult for motorists to stop for earlier crashes. Others ran off the road trying to avoid the crashes.
The southbound lanes of the Interstate were closed around 8 pm with Farina Firemen detouring traffic off the interstate through Farina to the Kinoka Road where Kinmundy-Alma Firemen directed the traffic back onto the Interstate.
