A 29-year-old Sandoval man has been sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated battery to a Centralia Police Officer.
Jerry Zappa had a second aggravated battery charge as well as unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful violation of an order of protection charges dropped against him.
Zappa was arrested on the charges following two charges with police on September 24th of last year. The charge he pleaded guilty to was for grabbing the wrist of the officer as Zappa was fleeing a traffic stop. The officer was eventually able to break Zappa’s hold and gave chase in his squad car but Zappa was able to break away.
In the second chase where charges were dropped, Zappa was accused of intentionally running his car head-on into his estranged wife’s vehicle. Centralia Police were able to intervene and a chase began that eventually ended in Germantown when Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks to disable his car.
Zappa still has charges pending in Clinton County Court on the second chase, including two counts of aggravated fleeing of a police officer, reckless driving, and multiple traffic citations.
Zappa will have to serve one year of parole when getting out of prison on the Marion County conviction.
