Billy Sue Owens, 87, of Odin, passed February 16, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL. Billy Sue was a woman of God, being a long-time member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Odin. She had such a giving heart and loved being a part of the Eastern Star. Billy raised her family and was a seamstress at the Old Dress Factory. She also was a cook for the Odin School and loved seeing all the smiling faces. Later in life Billy worked at Odin Healthcare preparing meals for patients. Billy was known for spatting off stats of athletes and her favorite teams like the St. Louis Cardinals, and Sacramento Kings. Billy Sue’s favorite title was “Grandma” she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the time she got to spend with Karl after his school day and loved to take him wherever his heart desired. Billy was a caring mother and hard worker. She passed those traits down to her children that she was so pleased with bragging about to all who listened.
A celebration of life service will be held privately with Brother Claude Howell officiating. Memorials may be made in Billy’s honor to Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Billy is survived by her devoted children, Rocky K. Owens (Carrie) of Salem, Terri Lively (Gerald) of Odin, Kent Owens (Angela) of Odin; cherished grandchildren, Eric Lively (Karen) and Karl Owens; 3 precious great-grandchildren, Lauren, Logan, and Jake; sister, JoAnn Carlson (Don) of Rockford, IL; sister-in-law, Hazel “Sis” O’Brist.
She was born the daughter of Harold L. O’Brist and Addie Mae Hodge on November 27, 1934 in Centralia, IL. She married the love of her life Herman K. Owens on October 16, 1954, and he preceded her in death. Billy was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Herman Owens; parents, Harold and Addie Mae O’Brist; siblings, Jackie Osterman (Joe), Pat Heard (Don), Harold O’Brist Jr; and granddaughter, Jamie Owens.
