PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Cliff Omoruyi had 15 points, 13 rebounds and a reverse alley-oop dunk in Rutgers’ game-breaking run as the Scarlet Knights beat No. 12 Illinois 70-59 for their fourth straight win over a ranked team. The run is the longest in school history for the Scarlet Knights. The last team to win four straight against ranked teams in the regular season was Michigan State in 2019-20. Ron Harper Jr. added 16 points and eight rebounds. Center Kofi Cockburn was the only consistent threat for Illinois, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Trent Frazier added 11 points and RJ Melendez had 10.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has agreed to a reworked five-year contract with the school that runs through the 2026 season. The announcement of a new deal comes two weeks after Harbaugh interviewed to fill the head coaching vacancy with the Minnesota Vikings. Financial terms of Harbaugh’s new deal were not released. Harbaugh agreed to large pay cut last year after the Wolverines went 2-4 in the pandemic-abbreviated 2020 season. Harbaugh and Michigan bounced back in 2021, winning the Big Ten and going to the College Football Playoff for the first time.
UNDATED (AP) — Keegan Murray has a chance to do something no Iowa player has accomplished in over two decades. Iowa hasn’t produced a first-round draft pick since Ricky Davis went 21st overall in 1998 and hasn’t produced an NBA lottery selection since that system started in 1985. Murray could change that. The 6-foot-8 sophomore forward is scoring 23.3 points per game to rank third among all Division I players. Mock drafts suggest he could become Iowa’s first top-10 pick since Ronnie Lester was selected 10th in 1980 after leading the Hawkeyes to their last Final Four appearance.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Ken O’Keefe will move from Iowa quarterbacks coach to an off-the-field role with the Hawkeyes. O’Keefe was a member of Kirk Ferentz’s first staff at Iowa, serving as offensive coordinator from 1999-2011. O’Keefe left Iowa for a coaching position in the NFL and returned to Iowa City to coach quarterbacks prior to the 2017 season. O’Keefe’s coaching career has spanned 45 years. He said the time is right to embrace a new opportunity. Iowa did not specify what O’Keefe’s role would be going forward.
