Regional semifinals continued in girls prep basketball.
At Carlyle, the 5th seed Christ Our Rock battled till the end but fell short falling to 3rd seed Father McGivney 40-38. McGivney had beaten the Stallions by 32 points, 46-14 earlier this season. Senior Krista Carter led the Silver Stallions with 12, sophomore Chloe Carter added 10. Also prayers going out to Stallions sophomore Mati Stanart who broke her arm below the elbow during the regional semifinal. McGivney advances to the regional finals tomorrow night where they will get Carlyle after they eliminated Sandoval last night 69-34.
Also in 1a at Gibault, Woodlawn got 14 from Jase Burkett in a 59-26 win over Trico. Marissa got 18 from Autumn Gilley in their win over Gibault 55-24.
In 2a regional semi’s last night at Breese Central, the host Lady Cougars beat Greenville 56-22 and Nashville 45-25 over Pinckneyville. At Hillsboro, the host Hilltoppers beat Auburn 64-39 and Carlinville 45-39 over Waverly. At Marshall, the hosts beat Mt Carmel 45-26 behind 24 from Maya Osborn.
In 3a, the Centralia Annies are in the Herrin regional championship after their 53-36 win over Marion. Jalea Shered had 18 in the win for the Annies and Jasaiyah Wallace added 12. They will get Mattoon after the Green Wave eliminated Herrin 71-46.
Also in 3a at Rochester, Mt Zion fell to Rochester 56-43. At Triad, the hosts nipped Highland 31-26 and Waterloo got 35 from Norah Gum in their 63-55 win over Mascoutah.
In girls 4a regionals at Belleville West, O’Fallon beat Belleville East 62-33 and Collinsville over West 51-37.
