The Bond County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged a 28-year-old Grenville man with first-degree murder and obstructing justice in connection with the shooting death of a Greenville woman on February 10th.
Bond for Demarcus Gurlly was set at $1-million. He’s charged in connection with the shooting death of 37-year-old Laquita Sullivan of Greenville who was found in a nearby home after police responded to a report of multiple gunshots in the 600 block of East South Street.
Gurlly was first detained for questioning in reference to the homicide the same night the murder occurred. The formal charges were then filed on Monday.
A Tuesday night release from State Police does not explain how Gurlly became a suspect.
One person was killed and a second was injured when a car matching the description of one involved in a separate shooting a block south of the homicide later became involved in a police chase and crash in Madison County. 25-year-old Kiondre Fitzgerald of Greenville died from injuries sustained in the crash. 23-year-old Quincy Mcelmurray of Anna was injured.
A 33-year-old man who was believed to be in the area when the fatal shooting occurred entered a home in the 500 block of East Main Street where he held police at bay for several hours before being detained without incident. He was released after questioning.
