A Salem businessman is continuing his February tradition of matching $10,000 in donations made during the month to the Centralia Humane Society.
Edward Jones Financial Advisor Darren Dwyer says donations can be made by calling the Humane Society or donating online at centraliahumanesocietyil.org. But to be eligible, the donations must be made by the end of the month.
The humane society’s Hannah Garrison says they are very thankful for Darren’s generosity, noting they rely solely on the generosity of the community to keep their doors open.
Garrison says the money will be used for general care of the animals, as well as things like bills, supplies, medical bills, etc. Some of the challenges the humane society currently faces are caring for their special needs animals.
They currently have three leukemia-positive cats, four feline AIDS-positive cats, a blind cat that was hit by a car, a blind senior dog with very few teeth, and a dog with immune-mediated polyarthritis that has very expensive medication.
Garrison hopes they raise enough money to also get some new, fun toys for the animals as well.
Garrison says they care for their animals like they’re their own until they are adopted or pass over the rainbow bridge. She notes they have some big dogs that rarely get looked at due to their breed, or homing needs such as being an only dog. Garrison says they try their absolute best to provide enriching experiences, outings, and lots of love to the animals while they wait for their new forever home.
