The Class L state basketball tournament opens today at Hummer Waugh Gym at Rend Lake College. At 9:30 its Carterville playing O’Fallon Fulton, followed at 10:45 with Marion and Whiteside. Casey Mt Vernon plays Centralia at noon followed by unbeaten Olney and Belleville West at 1:15. The semifinals will be on Tuesday night with the championship on Thursday.
The Class M tournament finished up on Friday at Okawville High School with Nashville winning the title beating Goreville 49-34. NCOE was the 3rd place winner getting past Fairfield 25-22.
In Class S today, Hoffman Trinity/Centralia St Mary’s will try to finish an undefeated season with a state title, but it won’t be easy as they take on a very talented Waltonville team in the 3:30 state finals at Pinckneyville. The 3rd place game opens the day at 2 with Meridian Middle School playing Jasper.
