2022 02/19 – Barbara Jane Davenport

Barbara Jane Davenport, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:47 pm February 6, 2022 at her home. Barbara was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon. Founding member of Tuesday Night Cultural Society. She was an avid antique dealer and loved to refinish old furniture. She was known as the family historian.

A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Saturday, February, 19 at 11 am with the Very Reverend Bill Howard officiating. Her husband, Robert’s ashes will be interred with her. Barbara is survived by her son, David Davenport and wife, Barbara of West Frankfort; two daughters, Joan Tate and husband, Mike of Mount Vernon, Nancy Ross of Nashville, Tennessee; four granddaughters, Madeline McCamey and husband, Nick of Nashville, Heidi Day and husband, Scott of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Rebekah Mellen and husband, Chris of Lowell, MA, Meagan Rich of Johnston City; Grandson, Colter Tate of Owensboro, Kentucky; 10 great grandchildren, Carter, Carson, Caroline, Brooks, Tierney, Brenna, Ashley, Cody, Jack, Kate; niece, Barbara “Cissy” Hanagan and husband, Steve of Mount Vernon; two great nieces, India Waite and husband Logan, Alexis Vasquez and husband, Eduardo.

She was born January 2, 1933 to the late John Koons and Geneve Reece. Barbara married Robert Davenport September 16, 1952. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2019. In addition her to her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her nephew, Paul Lowther; sister, Joan Lowther; and nephew Tony Lowther.
