The Salem Wildcats fell to 11-12 overall with a home loss to DuQuoin on Saturday night 63-56. Salem trailed 24-4 after the opening quarter as DuQuoin hit 6 three’s in the opening 8 minutes. Salem cut the deficit to 2 points in the fourth quarter but DuQuoin’s Caden Hutchens sealed the win from the line as he finished with a game-high 25 points. Salem got 18 from Rolen Adams and 9 from Brendan Phillips in the loss. Salem is off until Friday when they host Freeburg. The Cats were scheduled to play Benton tomorrow night, but the Rangers had to cancel due to Covid.
The SC Cougars won the consolation title at the National Trail Tournament knocking off Dieterich 50-34. Keenin Willshire scored 14 in the win and Spencer Johannes added 13 as both were named to the All Tournament team. The Cougars are 19-6 on the season and will try to get to 20 wins Friday at Ramsey. SC hasn’t had a 20-win season since Coach Gary Shirley’s final year in 2008-09.
