A Centralia woman was stabbed Wednesday night in an altercation blamed on a drug deal gone bad.
Centralia Police have arrested 29-year-old Rayann Mandrell of Heritage Drive for armed violence, aggravated battery with a weapon, and home invasion.
The victim of the stabbing is identified as Mercedes Williams. She received a cut to the left arm and was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
Police say Mandrell had gone to a room at the Midtown Motel at 402 North Elm to purchase drugs, but none were delivered after she had given a woman cash. Mandrell became upset and later knocked on the door and confronted another woman who turned out to be Williams. While initially letting her inside the room to look for the woman who took the money, an altercation later occurred when Williams tried to get Mandrell to leave. In the process, Williams was stabbed with a pocket knife.
Mandrell was later located with a man who had agreed to give her a ride to the motel to buy drugs. The back window of his car was broken out by others in the room when the two began to leave. Police questioned the man but said he will not be charged.
The incident occurred at 8:15 Wednesday night.
