The Salem Grade School Board Thursday night approved applying for a $50,000 school maintenance project grant.

Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe said if is approved, the money will go towards replacement of older playground equipment at Hawthorne.  The grant would require the school district to provide at least $50,000 in matching funds for the project.   Foppe says the state had adequate funding to approve most of the grant requests.

The board received good financial news.  New policies for Worker’s Compensation Insurance through Imming Insurance Agency and cyber liability through Dimon Brothers will cost $6,001 less than last year.  Foppe says this is due to a decreased payroll for worker’s compensation.  She also thanked the district’s technology coordinator for quickly addressing items that needed to be in place to keep the cost of the cyber liability insurance down.

The board agreed to once again provide $20 Christmas gift cards to the faculty.

The board accepted the resignation of Joeli Shaubert as a paraprofessional.  She will continue as dance team coach.
