Larry Robert Phelps, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:09 am December 24, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon peacefully with his kids by his side. Larry was a man of faith and attended Park Avenue Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and other outdoor activities. Most of all, Larry appreciated life and will be remembered by his family and friends for his wit and humor.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Larry is survived by his special friend, Donna Garrison of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Crystal Walter and husband, Stefan of Pinckney, Michigan; sons, Donald Phelps and wife, Shelia of Opdyke, Illinois, David Phelps and wife, Donna of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Richard Phelps of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Anthony Phelps of Makanda, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia DeSelms of Peachtree, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was born September 22, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Neal and Agnes (Mackie) Phelps. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his grandson, Blake Phelps; brother, Donald Phelps; and sister, Phyllis June Ferri.
