Wednesday marked the one year anniversary of the Covid-19 vaccine being available in Illinois.

More than 18 million doses have been administered in Illinois over the past year, and 63% of all state residents are now fully vaccinated.  In Marion County, just under 42% of all residents are vaccinated, with 5,204 of those 15,296 receiving their booster vaccine.

State Public Health Director D. Ngozi Ezike feels we can do better.

“I would of hoped that we would of been a little further.  We would of had 80-90%, maybe that was too optimistic.  As this pandemic has dragged on the fatigue associated with it has dragged on as well.”

Ezike urges those who haven’t gotten their shots to talk to their doctor about any concerns.  On average, more than 67,000 doses are administered each day.
