Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon and his wife Lori are changing this year’s Operation Sleigh Ride to assist families impacted by the tornado that ripped through Kentucky on Friday night. Initially, the supplies were going to be taken to Mayfield, Kentucky, but with the national media attention on that area, Cannon says they will take the donations to an area most in need.
This Friday from nine to six and Saturday from nine to noon the Disaster Response Unit Trailer will be at the Salem Walmart to accept donations. You are asked to consider donating non-perishable foods or ready-to-eat items, and drinks of all kinds. Clothing items of all types and sizes, particularly cold-weather gear such as coats, hats, gloves, and boots.
Christmas items are also being sought. Wrapped toys of all kinds, without ribbons or bows, can be donated. You should write on the wrapping “Boy, 8-10 years” or “Girl, 3-5” or whatever matches your gift by gender or age.
Christmas is the season of giving and Cannon says we should all step up and show Mayfield what Christmas is all about.
The doors to the trailer will be closed at noon on Saturday to head south for the trip to Kentucky.
