Carter Allen Engel, age 16 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
Carter was born on February 28, 2005, in Centralia, the son of Kelly and Traci (Helm) Engel.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three siblings, Cody Engel and girlfriend Tiange Shi of Champaign, and Kylie Engel and Tamryn Engel both of Salem; grandparents, Frank Helm of Salem and Kay Engel of Kinmundy; uncles, Brad Helm of Salem and Kevin Helm and wife Stacy of Ashley; and several great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruby Helm and Gaylan Engel.
Carter was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church. He was a student at Salem Community High School, where he was active in the high school band, the e-sports team, and the theater club.
Funeral services for Carter Engel will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Denise Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Elder Cemetery in Kinmundy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
