SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A former campaign worker for the Illinois governor who is featured in an explosive email that surfaced last year says he has no knowledge of the alleged government criminal coverups it mentions.
Forrest Ashby told The Associated Press he didn’t get a direct answer when he confronted the email’s author, ex-lobbyist Michael McClain. The 2012 email was in response to Ashby’s request for help at his state job. But he said he knows nothing about McClain’s claim that Ashby showed loyalty by covering up illegal state hiring or an alleged rape.
McClain is under federal indictment for an alleged bribery scheme and did not respond to a request for comment.
