Some of the damage seen from the outside to a Marion County Housing Authority duplex in the aftermath of a Wednesday morning fire.

A Marion County Housing Authority Duplex at 413 South Mulberry in Sandoval was damaged in a Wednesday morning fire.

Sandoval Fire Protection District officials say the fire was in a unit occupied by Tosha Dodson.  She was home along with her two-year-old daughter.   Dodson was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector.  She was able to grab her daughter from the bed where the fire appeared to have started.

Both were safely outside when the fire department arrived to flames shooting out of the bedroom window.   Firemen got a quick knockdown and kept the fire confined to the one-bedroom that was gutted.   The remainder of the second floor as well as the first floor received smoke damage.

The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.

Sandoval received mutual aid assistance on the scene from the Centralia Fire Protection District and Odin Firemen while Centralia Firemen stood by at their station in the event of another fire in the Sandoval District.

The fire call came in at 9:28 Wednesday morning.   Firemen were on the scene for about an hour and ten minutes.   No injuries were reported in fighting the fire.
