Marion County deer hunters bag 1,022 deer during first shotgun deer hunting season

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has announced 50,300 deer were harvested during the first shotgun deer hunting week last month. The number includes 1,022 in Marion County.

Statewide the deer harvest is up by more than 3,000 deer and the number of deer taken in the first shotgun season in Marion County is up 112 from last year.

The second shotgun deer hunting season opens on Thursday and continues through Sunday.

Deer hunt totals were up in all area counties. Preliminary totals include:

  • 782 in Clay County up 60
  • 498 in Clinton County up 24
  • 1,154 in Fayette County up 174
  • 1,293 in Jefferson County up 174
  • 697 in Washington County up 98
  • 971 in Wayne County up 110
