All area counties remain at “high” level for COVID-19 infection during past week

The Federal Centers for Disease Control is reporting 123 new cases of COVID-19 in Marion County last week. That’s an 8.2-percent decline from the prior week but still puts the county’s infection rate at 331 per 100,000, more than three times the number to be placed in the high category. There were 17 new hospitalizations in Marion Count for the week. The CDC reports 49.1-percent of the county’s population 12 and above is fully vaccinated.

The highest positivity rate in the region remains in Clay County where new cases increased 70-percent last week to 70. The county’s rate of infection is at 531 per 100,000. Three new hospitalizations were reported.

In Clinton County, there were 52 new cases, a 15-percent decline. The county’s positivity rate is at 138 per 100,000 with no new hospitalizations. The positivity rate is the lowest in the area.

In Jefferson County, 67 new cases were reported last week with an infection rate of 178 per 100,000. The number of new cases is down 19 percent. The county had 12 new hospitalizations.

Washington County reported 35 new cases, up 46-percent from the prior week. The county’s rate of infection is at 252 per 100,000 people.

Fayette County is reporting 57 new cases, a drop of 20-percent from the prior week. The county’s rate of infection is at 267 per 100,000. There were nine new hospitalizations.

Wayne County is reporting 43 new cases, a four percent drop. The rate of infection is at 265 per 100,000. There were two new hospitalizations.
