Jean Speiser, 73, of Shattuc passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Jean had a passion for learning and began her pursuit of her academic career at Greenville College, where she completed her undergraduate studies. She then earned her master’s degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Jean felt a responsibility to share her love of learning with others and found her true calling and joy as a teacher. Her teaching career began at Carlyle Grade School where she opened the world of learning for countless children over many years until her retirement. Jean was a faithful member of Huey United Methodist Church, serving as the church’s pianist since 1963, and sharing her spiritual gift of leadership as a lay speaker. She spent quiet moments immersed in reading and seeking after the promises of her faith. She was talented and creative, and enjoyed crocheting. She was an attentive, loving daughter and many were grateful for her loyal friendship. Jean was aware that her life was preparing others to follow her example and she gave her all to be sure she set others up for success.
