2021 10/13 – Bill Jeter

Bill  Jeter, 75, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 3:44 am October 9, 2021, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born November 18, 1945, in Marion, Illinois to Mr. Jeter and Gladys (Williams) Jeter. Bill married Carolyn “Carol” (McMillan) Jeter on August 27, 1974, in Herrin, Illinois. In addition to his beloved wife of forty-seven years,

Bill is survived by his son, David Jeter of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Everett Jeter, Leon Jeter, Cletus Jeter, and sister, Barbara Keyser.

Mr. Jeter proudly served his country in the United States Army for thirty years as a recruiter in Herrin, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Carbondale, Buffalo, Minnesota, and West Memphis, Arkansas and he returned home to Mount Vernon to retire. He was a member of Bakerville Freewill Baptist Church, Mount Vernon Elks, and American Legion Post #141. Bill enjoyed collecting models cars and loved his dogs.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend David Mishler officiating. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin, Illinois. Fully Military Rites will be held at the cemetery. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Bill’s honor to Wound Warrior Project.
