Greta Eileen McGee, 84, of Louisville passed away at 7:09 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Fireside House in Centralia, Illinois. Greta was a homemaker and worked as a bus driver for the North Clay School District. Some of her interests included gardening and canning her produce, playing the piano and traveling to Branson to see some old country western stars. Greta was an excellent cook with some of her families’ favorites being fried chicken and chicken and noodles. Greta was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Old Union Church of Christ.
Funeral services honoring the life of Greta will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Gene Birch officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Union Cemetery, Bible Grove. Visitation will be held on Saturday afternoon at the funeral home where friends may call from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or The Burge House in Flora, Illinois. Greta is survived by her children: Ed (Eva) McGee, of Centralia, Illinois; Pam (Ron) Woods, of Louisville, Illinois; Susan (Brad) Thompson, of Savoy, Illinois; Jeff (Julie) McGee, of Chesterfield, Missouri; as well as 8 grandchildren: Chris and Curt McGee; Nicole Woods Kuhlig; Riley, Marshall and Jack Thompson; Ashley Preston and Courtney (Adam) James and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother; Aaron (Marijane) Hardin, of Louisville, Connie (Wayne) Hagen, of Flora, and a sister-in-law; Faye McGee, of Louisville.
Greta was born on October 29, 1936 in Bible Grove Township, the daughter of John E. and Mattie J. (Webster) Hardin. She married Jack McGee on June 26, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Bible Grove and they shared 63 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 21, 2019. Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Floyd Hardin, William Hardin, sister-in-law Shirley and brother-in-law Jerry McGee.
