The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to enter into a $25,000 contract to survey and develop a site development plan for the new soccer complex on West Main and the Selmaville Road. City Manager Rex Barbee is recommending the contract with the Gonzalez Company.

The council will be asked to accept the low bid from Key Government Finance to refinance the city's obligation bonds for the Aquatic Center and waste water treatment improvements. After fees, the rate of interest will be 1.17-percent compared to the current rates that are 2.5-percent or higher. Nine investors, including local banks, submitted bids.

The council will consider the rezoning of just over 5 acres of land on Airport Road from RS-5 Residential to B-6 Commercial to allow for large storage units. The planning commission is recommending denial of the request.

The city staff is recommending a proposal from a local realtor to allow property owners on lots adjacent to the City Reservoir to construct boat docks be rejected.

The Salem Elks club is requesting a temporary road closing for the Saturday of Little Egypt Festival. The Elks want to close North Alley Street between the Elks and Medicine Shoppe to allow more room for those attending live music after the parade.

Due to the number of COVID-19 cases, the meeting is being held via Zoom. It will begin at six pm.
