Greta M. Bumpus, 93, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:06 pm September 7, 2021 at her residence in Mount Vernon. Greta worked at Page Real Estate and was a Real Estate Agent at Cross Davidson Real Estate. She later worked and retired for Consolidated Coal as an executive secretary. Greta was a member of Central Christian Church. She had strong Christian values and her faith was of the utmost importance to her next to her family. She was a woman of grace and peace and was not one to gossip or talk about other people in a negative light. She made life long friends and cared for others more than herself.
A Visitation will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiating. Greta is survived by her daughters, Karen Fink and husband, Lonnie of Mount Vernon, Indiana; Teresa Hamilton of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Debi Johnson and husband, Don of Thompsonville, Illinois; Cama Morgan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kris Carter; Kathy Braddock and husband, Donnie; Stacey Jones and husband, Wayne; Heather McConnaughay and husband, Ivan; Stephanie Plumb; Kendra Hilmes and husband, Steve; Sara Metcalf and husband, Josh; Mike Morgan and wife, Heather; Melanie Morgan and Dal Ackerman; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born January 6, 1928 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late George and Ella (Allen) Thomason. Greta married Floyd Bumpus on September 5, 1946 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with sixty-two years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 2, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband, Greta was preceded in death by her five siblings; three sons-in-law; and two grandsons-in-law.
