Clarence Witges, 61, of Scheller, Illinois, passed away at 11:57 pm September 3, 2021, at his home. He was born December 17, 1959, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Leo T. Witges and Helen (Kujawa) Witges. Clarence married the love of his life, Bonnie (Cassity) Witges on September 17, 1983, and she survives in Scheller.
In addition to his beloved wife, Clarence is survived by his sons, Brian Witges and wife, Jamie of Pinckneyville and Caleb Witges of Sesser. He has two grandchildren, Oliver and Claire, who he loved dearly. Clarence is also survived by four siblings, Gerald Witges and wife, Rose of Teutopolis, Steve Witges and wife, Jackie of Effingham, Karen Pelker and husband, Walt of Scheller, and Kevin and wife, Julia of Scheller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his brother, David.
Clarence graduated from Rend Lake College with an Associate in Science in 1979. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1981. He worked at Waltonville Grain in Waltonville, Illinois several years earlier in his life. Clarence recently retired from Continental Tire in Mount Vernon, Illinois, where he has worked for the past 38 years.
Clarence was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Saint Barbara’s Parrish in Scheller, Illinois. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Clarence has been characterized by his beloved family and friends to be the most loving, caring, and gentle person they have ever known.
A Visitation will be held Monday, September 6, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Saint Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 10:00 am with Father Nick Junker and Father Joel Seipp officiating. Interment will follow at Saint Barbara Cemetery in Scheller.
