Janet Sue Redeker, age 75 of Rural Kinmundy, entered into heavenly rest on August 27, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Her husband, Howard Redeker, was by her side.
Janet was born on April 16, 1946, in Salem to the late Lloyd and Virginia Sinclair.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Clay County Grain Co and Ging’s Elevator before going back to college. Janet received an Associate in Arts from Kaskaskia College and both a Bachelors and Masters of Social Work from The University of Illinois. She retired from the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services in June of 2011 as a Public Service Administrator.
Janet enjoyed time with her family and taking many vacations through the years. As an only child, she enjoyed spending time with aunts, uncles, and many cousins that maintained a close relationship over the years. She organized the family reunions and enjoyed bringing everyone together.
Janet found great comfort in attending to her plants and maintaining her flower gardens. In addition to that, she enjoyed singing, particularly Gospel, and recorded her own album entitled Really Worth It. She was also a member of the Homecoming Choir.
As a member of First Southern Baptist Church, she is remembered as a woman of strong faith bolted to God’s word. Janet suffered many years from complications with Type 1 Diabetes. Her faith served as a strong foundation and witness to others during this time.
Survivors include: her husband, Howard Redeker, three sons: Jeff (Tammy) Ritter of Kinumndy, Greg (April) Ritter of Iuka, and Jeremy Redeker of Kinmundy. Grandchildren: Matthew (Spencer) Ritter of Kinmundy, Allison Ritter of Iuka, Mary Branch of Kinmundy, and Cody Gould of Centralia.
Funeral services for Janet Redeker will be held at The First Southern Baptist Church of Farina on Tuesday, August 31st at 10 am with Brother Jimmy Page officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Monday evening, August 30 from 5-8 pm and one hour before the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow at The Elder Cemetery in Kinmundy. Memorials may be made to CASA of Marion County or Cunningham Children’s Home and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements.
