Judith Gail Carpenter, age 72, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 4:47 P.M. on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Centralia, Illinois, where she was baptized on November 27, 1949, and received her confirmation in October of 1958. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, joining in August of 1966. She was a member of Centralia Business and Professional Women. Mrs. Carpenter loved her dogs, Athena, Thor, Nikki, Molly and Les. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, and tending to her garden. Mrs. Carpenter cherished the time with her husband, John, especially going for walks and traveling to states that had snow-capped mountains. Mrs. Carpenter retired in 2007 from St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois as an administrative assistant to the Vice President of Nursing after 38 years of service. She graduated with Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1966.” She lived all of her life in Centralia, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Father Bill Howard and Deacon Sylvia Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of her service at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Carpenter’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Humane Society of the United States and may be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois. Anderson and wife Jane of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Karl Anderson of Fence Lake, New Mexico; aunt, Debbie Healy of Cedar Crest, New Mexico; cousins, Debbie Dunn of Granite City, Illinois, Bonnie Fisher and husband Sonny of Lee Center, Illinois, and Larry Ackermann of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brothers-in-law, George Dale Carpenter and wife Carolyn of Centralia, Illinois and Patrick Carpenter of Centralia, Illinois, sister-in-law, Robin Brink and husband Kerry of Centralia, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born on November 27, 1948, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Robert E. and Dorothy Mae (Ackermann) Burge. She married John Michael Carpenter on October 25, 1969, at First United Methodist Church in Centralia, Illinois and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2016. In addition to her loving husband of 46 years, Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. Burge and Dorothy Mae Burge; and great aunt, Ann “Nana” Anderson; father-in-law, Albert “A.R.” Carpenter; and mother-in-law, Ethel Carpenter.
